Since 1978, Newtex fabrics have been trusted to provide shipyard ppe (personal protective equipment) in the most demanding ship building environments where sparks, molten metal splatter, and hot works operations pose serious hazards. Our advanced heat resistant fabric and proprietary high temperature coatings have been time-tested in shipyards to provide superior heat resistance, abrasion resistance, slag resistance, and burn-through protection without the risk of toxic smoke outgassing. We offer a broad selection of fabrics used to fabricate welding blankets, welding curtains, and welding pads to meet your specific needs in the shipyard — from light to heavy welding, grinding, metal cutting, and stress relieving.

Find the ideal heat resistant fabric best suited for your specific shipyard welding, grinding, draping, and other hot works application:

Detailed Product Descriptions

The industry standard in high heat protection for all piping or equipment insulation needs as well as protective drape cloth to prevent sparks from heavy welding or cutting operations

Woven from highly texturized continuous filament yarn, Zetex and ZetexPlus are widely used in applications requiring high temp insulation and fire protection.

Zetex withstands operating temperatures up to 1000°F (540°C) and intermittent temperatures up to 1300°F (700°C).

ZetexPlus is treated with a proprietary vermiculite coating for abrasion resistance and resistance to operating temperatures up to 1500°F (815°C) and intermittent temperatures up to 2000°F (1095°C).

COMMON APPLICATIONS:
  • Essential insulation fabrics for all piping or equipment insulation needs; Can be used to fabricate multilayer insulation pads, gaskets, pipe insulation wrap, and a myriad of other insulation and fire protection uses.

  • Protective drape cloth to prevent sparks from welding or cutting operations from damaging or igniting machinery or flammable goods;

  • Pad or blankets use for covering floor or horizontal surfaces to catch slag and/or prevent sparks or molten metal from igniting fire.

RedFlexible protective fabric, good for draping protection from light welding, grinding and cutting operations.

Z-Shield Salmon and Bull Dog Red fabrics have superior flexibility and can be easily draped over equipment or hung from a support to prevent sparks from starting a fire near a hot works operation. They are also commonly used for light welding and grinding. The acrylic coating is abrasion resistant for good reusability, and the filament fiber base fabric is flexible enough to roll up, carry, and store. Z-Shield Salmon and Bull Dog Red withstand temperatures up to 1000°F (540°C).

COMMON APPLICATIONS:
  • Protective drape cloth to prevent sparks from welding or cutting operations from damaging or igniting machinery or flammable goods.

Strong, waterproof, and weather-resistant fabric for shielding from slag or direct flame and insulating jackets for equipment exposed to water, oil, or chemical spray.

Ideal for field construction or weather-exposed operations, Z-Tuff Silicone and Z-Block SOC fabrics are flexible and highly resistant to water and oil. They handle direct flame and slag well and will not produce hazardous outgassing. These fabrics are good for removable insulation jackets for equipment exposed to water, oil or chemical spray. Z-Tuff Silicone is available in silver or red and withstands temperatures up to 500°F (260°C). Z-Block withstands temperatures up to 1800°F (980°C).

COMMON APPLICATIONS:
  • Exterior layer (Jacket) for multilayer insulation systems; easy to wipe clean of dirt, oil and grime.

  • Also effective as a hotworks drape cloth to prevent sparks from sticking to cloth; Serves as shield for equipment, but allows slag to drop to horizontal surfaces below protected by a blanket or pad.

Essential protection used in protective blankets and pads to aggressively capture slag and molten metal and prevent fires from igniting.

Z-Shield Black & Z-Shield Gold feature a medium to heavy weight texturized fiberglass fabric and a proprietary acrylic coating. These fabrics are heavier and less pliable than Z-Shield Salmon, making them ideal for blankets. The acrylic coating is abrasion resistant and helps reduce airborne fibers. Unlike neoprene-coated golden glass, our acrylic coatings enhance abrasion resistance and shelf life while eliminating the potential for toxic smoke outgassing. These fabrics withstand temperatures up to 1000°F (540°C).

COMMON APPLICATIONS:
  • Used in protective pads and as blankets for covering floor or horizontal surfaces; Highly effective in catching slag and/or prevent sparks or molten metal from igniting fire.

Highly flexible extreme temperature protection for stress relieving, stainless steel welding, and equipment protection.

Z-Sil is a highly flexible fabric composed of more than 96% silica. It is ideally suited for stress relieving, stainless steel welding, and equipment protection. The fabric is treated with a proprietary inorganic coating that improves abrasion resistance and remains with the fabric even at high temperatures. Z-Sil withstands continuous operating temperatures up to 1800°F (980°C) and peak temperatures up to 2300°F (1260°C).

COMMON APPLICATIONS:
  • Used for in specialty welding, metal cutting, stainless steel welding, and stress relieving where application temperatures exceed 2000F.

Reflective silver pigment for ideal for welding, jacketing, or heat shielding application requiring enhanced radiant heat deflection

In addition to the abrasion and heat resistance that characterize the standard Z-Shield acrylic coating, Z-Shield Silver also features a silver pigment used to reflect radiant heat. The silver pigment coats only one side of the fabric, which should be positioned to face the heat source. Like all Newtex fabrics, Z-Shield Silver will not release toxic outgassing. Z-Shield Silver protects from temperatures up to 1000°F (540°C).
